Magnetic power bank buying guide: capacity, Qi2, slim vs semi-solid
A 10,000 mAh magnetic power bank does not give a phone 10,000 mAh. Here is what capacity, wireless efficiency, thickness and cell type mean for the product you sell.
Magnetic power banks snap onto the back of a phone and charge it wirelessly. They are sold as "MagSafe compatible", which means they work with iPhone's magnet ring — not that Apple certified them. Choosing the right one to sell comes down to capacity, efficiency, size, cell type and features.
Why 10,000 mAh does not mean 10,000 mAh in the phone
The rating is the cell capacity at about 3.7 V. Power is lost twice: converting the cell voltage up, and sending it through the wireless coil, which turns part of it into heat. Over wireless, a 10,000 mAh pack typically gives a recent iPhone roughly one and a half full charges — more over the USB-C cable. Say this honestly on the listing; it prevents "fake capacity" reviews.
Pick the capacity for the use
| Capacity | Typical thickness | Who buys it |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 mAh | About 8–13 mm | Everyday carry, "forget it is there" |
| 10,000 mAh | About 12.5–18 mm | Travel and commuting; the best-selling size |
| 20,000 mAh | Thicker and heavier | Long trips; less pleasant on the phone |
Our S54 is 12.5 mm thin at 10,000 mAh; the S58 adds a built-in cable. See the full magnetic power bank line, from 5,000 to 20,000 mAh.
Qi2 or 15W magnetic?
A Qi2-certified power bank meets the WPC magnetic standard and can be checked in the WPC database. Many magnetic packs charge at up to 15W without Qi2 certification. If you put "Qi2" on the box, make sure the model is listed — see how to verify Qi certification and our Qi2 vs Qi2.2 guide.
Cell type: semi-solid or lithium-polymer
Semi-solid cells replace much of the liquid electrolyte with a gel, improving thermal stability and lowering leakage risk — a real benefit for a pack that sits against a phone all day. They cost more and follow the same airline and shipping rules. Read semi-solid vs lithium-polymer for the details.
Features that drive reviews
- Magnet strength: the pack must not slide off in a pocket.
- Built-in USB-C cable or lanyard: one less thing to carry.
- Kickstand: watching video while charging.
- Display or LEDs showing the remaining charge.
- Pass-through charging: charge the pack and the phone from one cable.
- Surface finish that does not scratch the phone.
Flight rules and labelling
Power banks travel in cabin baggage only. Up to 100 Wh needs no airline approval, and from 27 March 2026 ICAO limits passengers to two power banks and bans recharging them during the flight. Print both mAh and Wh on the housing. Our power bank airline rules guide covers the details.
MOQ and private label
Custom logo and colour start at 500 pcs per colour, with samples in 7–10 days. Every cell has a UN38.3 transport report. See OEM process and costs or send us your brief.
