Wireless car charger mounts: magnetic vs auto-clamp, vent vs dash
Mount type, holding method, heat and car power decide whether a wireless car charger works on the road. A practical guide to choosing which ones to sell.
A wireless car charger holds the phone and charges it while you drive. Buyers choose by two questions: how the mount attaches to the car, and how it holds the phone. Get those right for your market, then check heat and power.
How it holds the phone: magnetic or auto-clamp
| Magnetic | Auto-clamping | |
|---|---|---|
| Phones | iPhone, phones or cases with a magnet ring | Almost any phone |
| One-hand use | Snap on, pull off | Arms open and close automatically |
| Thick cases | Need a magnetic case | Usually fine |
| Moving parts | None | Motor and arms |
Our compact C2 is a magnetic vent mount; the wider car mount charger line also includes auto-clamping models with a motor that grips the phone on bumpy roads.
Where it attaches: vent, dashboard or suction
- Air-vent clip: the easiest install and the most popular; check it fits horizontal and vertical vents.
- Dashboard adhesive base: for round or weak vents; heat-resistant adhesive is a must.
- Suction cup with telescopic arm: for trucks and vans; some places restrict windscreen mounting, so check local rules.
Heat is the main enemy
A car parked in the sun gets far hotter than any office, and a phone charging in front of a heater vent heats up fast. Hot phones slow charging and may stop. Look for designs that keep air flowing around the coil, a phone that can sit on a vent blowing cool air, and materials that will not soften or deform in summer heat.
Power from the car
A 15W wireless charger needs more than an old 5V USB port can give. Pair it with a Quick Charge or USB-C PD car adapter, and say so in the listing. Our C2 takes USB-C input at 5V⎓3A or 9V⎓2A.
15W or Qi2 25W?
Most car mounts charge at up to 15W, which is plenty while driving and easier to keep cool. Qi2 25W car mounts exist for premium lines; see Qi2 vs Qi2.2 before you pay for the higher tier.
What to check on a sample
- Drive on a rough road: the phone must not move or drop.
- Charge for 30 minutes in a warm car and note the phone temperature.
- Fit test on three vent shapes and with a thick case.
- Check the clip does not damage vent slats when removed.
- Confirm the cable reaches the car's USB-C port neatly.
Private label, MOQ and pairing
Car mounts take custom logos and packaging from 500 pcs per colour. They pair well with a magnetic power bank such as the S54 for road-trip bundles. See our OEM / ODM service or request a quote.
